Requirements
Key Job Responsibilities:
- Provide
intellectual leadership and depth to the Botswana Guardian in particular,
and the company in general
- Strategically
position the Botswana Guardian as the market leader in terms of editorial
output, overall design and lay out the entire spectrum of content, price,
distribution and subscriptions policies
- Contribute
to the advancement of knowledge by ensuring that the publication produces
cutting edge news and analyses opinions or views.
- Maintain
the highest editorial, technical and commercial standards possible, and
that the company operates profitably
- Adhere
to independent, honest and responsible standards of journalism as per CBET
Code of Ethics that do not pander to personal or sectional interests, but
are solely in the public interest
- Be
unwavering in the observance of fairness, objectivity and professionalism
in the publication’s reportage
- Pursue
a balance policy calculated to enhance the welfare and progress of all
sections of the population and the region
- Build
up a loyal and motivated staff by providing opportunities for their
training and advancement and that work be one under good working
conditions
- Foster
among the public generally, and in commerce and industry, an image of
complete integrity, editorially and commercially
- Institute
and review quality controls in the newsroom, continually fine tuning
internal work processes such that they are in line with international best
practices.
- Supervise
the work of line editors, ensuring that the company is not exposed to
libel due to lapses in presentation, language, malicious reporting or
factual content.
- Oversee
the production of the opinion pages, including the lead page, the letters
page, contributors column and contribute copy to the Botswana Guardian or
other publications under the stable
- Participate
in the general administration and management of the company, including
contributing to the budgetary process or other assignments that may be
delegated by the General Manager from time to time.

Key Qualifications & Experience
Required
- Degree
in Humanities /Political Sciences/ Journalism / Media Studies;
- 5
– 10 years experience as business/financial journalist/analyser or writer.
A valid driver’s license a must have.
Duration
- 3
year fixed term contract with a possibility for renewal
